Poker is a game that is becoming more and more both online and offline in all of its different forms. When it comes to playing no limit holdem there can be as little as two people playing heads up or thousands playing in a single tournament over hundreds of different tables. On a single table you are not going to get more than ten players and the game will start when the players are all ready to go. One card will be dealt in order to find the highest card. The highest card will be then put as the ‘button’ for the first hand and this represents the position of the dealer from where the cards are dealt.

The button will move to the left each hand around the table. To the left of the button comes the small blind who will put in a compulsory small bed before the cards are dealt. Then to their left will be the big blind who will put in a bet double the size.

These cards will be the most important part of the game and the aim as the hand progresses will be to link these cards with further cards that are placed onto the table, in order to find the best five card hand that you can, without others knowing about them.

The player to make the first bet after these cards are dealt will be the next player to the left of the blinds. The first bet needs to be at least as big as the big blind or the player will need to fold the cards. However, they are able to raise the bet to anything above double the value of the big blind. They can even go ‘all in’ with all of their chips.

The betting will continue round the table until everyone has made their bet. After this the ‘flop’ will come down and that consists of three cards from the pack facing up for all to see. After this the player closest to the left of the dealer who is still in the game will make their bet and another round will ensue. After this round a further card known as the ‘turn’ will then come down.

After the turn there will be a third round of betting and then the final card called the ‘river’ will be placed on the table. After the river each player will be able to work out their best hand from the 7 on the table and in their hand, but they can only use their top five cards. Now a final round of betting will happen and the winner will be the player with the best hand. After this the next hand will start and the game will continue until someone has won all of the chips or money in play.
